Abstract

Aim: To describe the relationship between physical activity and self-determination in people with intellectual disabilities.

Methodology: A narrative literature review study was carried out. The search for information from 1978 to 2023 was carried out in the Scielo and Scopus databases of scientific articles through primary and secondary bibliographic sources. The mentioned information allowed to discuss the role of physical activity in the self-determination of people with intellectual disabilities.

Conclusions: The theoretical review of this article provides information on the role of physical activity in the development of skills for self-determination, which, has significant implications in the inclusion of PeSDI, understanding its positive impact on autonomy, decision making and self-esteem of individuals.
