Abstract

Methods: A quantitative observational and cross-sectional study was conducted using an online survey. The study involved a total population of 176 university students aged 18 to 25 from Lima Metropolitan, Peru.

Results: Regarding intense physical activity and DS consumption, there is a positive association (PR = 1.21) but not significant. Out of 176 students, 61.93% were female. Half of the participants belonged to the Health Sciences faculty. "Vitamin C" was the most consumed DS (41.48%). The primary reason for DS consumption, at 46.02%, was for health. Only 61.47% relied on healthcare professionals for information on DS consumption, and just 43.44% of consumers read DS labels. 19.67% of consumers experienced adverse reactions.

Conclusions: Within this research, a higher intake of SN was observed among those engaging in intense physical activity, although this association was not significant.
