Objective: To relate the number of steps determined by pedometers with age and body mass index BMI in university workers.
Methodology: A descriptive study was carried out in 22 subjects (9 men and 13 women) of a private university. Weight and height were evaluated. Body mass index BMI was calculated: PA was evaluated with pedometers. It was evaluated in one day of a working day from 9:00 to 18:00 hours.
Results: The relationship between age and BMI was negative and significant (p< 0,05). PA with age was r= -0.21 and with BMI it was r= -0.32. This means that PA decreases with age. Which means that PA decreases drastically with advancing age and increasing BMI.
Conclusion: The study on the level of PA in administrative adults of San Ignacio de Loyola University has revealed the negative relationship between body mass index (BMI) and physical activity, as well as the impact of age on the number of daily steps.
