Capoeira as curricular content in school physical education. A systematic review 2014-2024
Keywords:
Capoeira, Physical Education, curriculum, culture, motor developmentAbstract
Objective: To analyze the academic literature related to the implementation of Capoeira in school physical education classes and the benefits associated with this practice in the motor, cultural, and social development of students.
Methodology: Qualitative document review following PRISMA criteria. Articles in Spanish, English, and Portuguese from databases such as Scopus, Scielo, Dialnet, EBSCO, and Taylor & Francis were analyzed, excluding duplicate studies or those without direct relation to the educational context. The final selection included 20 articles, predominantly from Brazil (75%) and Spain (25%), mostly with a qualitative approach (70%).
Results: The identified benefits of Capoeira in the school setting included cultural recognition (20% of studies), development of body expression (16.7%), improvement of social skills (13.3%), and increased motivation (10%). Evidence showed that Capoeira is adaptable to various age groups (children, adolescents, and adults) and promotes interculturality, motor intelligence, and values such as cooperation and respect.
Conclusions: Capoeira transcends physical development, promoting comprehensive and critical learning in students. Its inclusion in the Physical Education curriculum is recommended to enrich student education. Limitations include the predominance of qualitative studies and the geographical concentration in Brazil, suggesting the need for more quantitative research, specific teacher training, and studies in other cultural contexts.
